Protecting our pension to protect our shared future.

We’ve connected the dots:  The State of Wisconsin Investment Board (SWIB) has invested at least 4.7% of our pension fund in fossil fuels. That’s billions of dollars funding climate polluting oil, gas and coal.

Climate change threatens everything, including the financial security of our pension.

Our pension should be protected, and it should serve to protect. We’re members of the Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS), currently working and retired, calling on the State of Wisconsin Investment Board (SWIB) to divest our pension from financially risky and environmentally irresponsible fossil fuel investments.

Over 1,500 institutions ― representing over $40 trillion in assets ― have now committed to some level of fossil fuel divestment.

Other state pension funds, including Maine and New York, are moving out of fossil fuel investments while meeting their legal and fiduciary responsibilities.

It is time for SWIB to do the same for Wisconsin’s pension fund, which serves to grow and protect the retirements of more than 652,000 participants. That’s a lot of futures on the line, and we want SWIB to make a better choice.

It is possible to safely divest from fossil fuels.

As members of the Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS) we call on the State of Wisconsin Investment Board (SWIB) to responsibly move toward fossil fuel divestment, including conducting adequate assessment of climate-related financial risk. Our financial future deserves protection, not increasingly risky uncertainty.

Our pension should protect and sustain the life we want everyone to enjoy in Wisconsin - now and in the future.

You’ve spent your working years serving others. Now it’s time to protect our shared future from risky fossil fuel investment.

We’ll only email you updates with important ways you can take action to spur this change, and we won’t share your information.
